Update Your Aadhaar Card before the Deadline: Here’s How
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a reminder to all Aadhaar cardholders to update their cards before the approaching deadline of December 14, 2023. This is especially important for those who have not updated their cards in the past decade. The UIDAI is urging users to take action and update their information to ensure that their details, such as name, date of birth, and address, are accurate and up-to-date.
To make the update process convenient, the UIDAI has extended the complimentary Aadhaar update service, providing a three-month window from September 14 to December 14. This service is exclusively accessible on the myAadhaar portal, allowing users to update their address online without any additional charges.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to updating your address online:
- Visit the Aadhaar self-service update portal: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/portal
- Click on ‘Proceed to update address.’
- Log in using your Aadhaar number, registered mobile number, and OTP.
- If you have a valid address proof, click on ‘Proceed to Update Address.’
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click ‘Send OTP.’
- Enter the OTP to log in to your Aadhaar account.
- Enter your new address, selecting the ‘update address via address proof’ option or using the ‘Update Address via Secret Code’ option.
- Input your residential address as mentioned in the ‘Proof of Address.’
- Choose the document type for address proof.
- Upload a scanned copy of the address proof and click ‘Submit.’
Once you have submitted the Aadhaar update request, a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) will be generated. You can use this URN to check the status of your update request. After the update is complete, you can download the updated Aadhaar card and get a printout for your records.
It’s important to note that the official website of UIDAI provides a list of updated and acceptable documents for address proof. Make sure to refer to this list before uploading your proof.
If you prefer to update your Aadhaar card by visiting an Aadhaar centre, please be aware that a service fee of ₹50 will be applicable.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars and update your Aadhaar card before the December 14 deadline. Stay compliant and ensure that your Aadhaar card information is accurate and up-to-date.
